The convention nominated a sitting governor of Texas on its first night, which was planned. The speech that followed lasted twenty-two minutes and was interrupted nine times by applause, which was also planned, and which he asked for by name from four delegations.

THE FLOOR. THE SIGNS ARE PROPAGANDA AND THE CONVENTION KNOWS IT.
NEW YORK, August 30 -- The Republican National Convention nominated Governor George W. Bush for president this evening, in a session that lasted seventeen minutes because the candidate's arrival was timed to the minute and the film about him was two minutes shorter than it had been at the last convention.
The platform, adopted without debate, runs to eleven pages and contains four sentences that the delegate floor considered controversial and which were, in the end, adopted.
