A Close Presidential Election Is Settled By 537 Votes And Four DaysNOVEMBER 7, 2000 · 17:10
Florida has recounted 400,000 ballots, gone to court four times, and concluded that the winner of the most consequential election of the century will be decided by fewer votes than a high school class.

THE COUNTY. THE PENDING BALLOT. EVERYBODY KNOWS THE BUILDING.
MIAMI, November 24 -- The most consequential election in American history will be decided by 537 votes, according to the official count in Palm Beach County, Florida, which was certified late yesterday after a recount ordered by the state's highest court.
The recount was of a race for President. The margin in the race for President of the United States is now smaller than the margin in the race for a school board in the same county.
Both campaigns have said they expect to win and both have said that the system is fundamental to democracy, in almost identical language, which is the most anybody can say in November.

wake up. actually do it this time, not figuratively.
