Senate Acquits President Clinton, Ending The Shortest Trial In HistoryFEBRUARY 16, 2001 · 08:31
Fifty-five hours of televised trial produced a not-guilty vote on two counts and no resolution at all on the perjury charge, which the Senate declined to consider, having agreed in advance not to. Both parties called it a victory. The president called it an excuse to behave badly and then went to work.

THE SENATE FLOOR. STILL, MOSTLY. THERE IS NO AURA ABOUT IT.
WASHINGTON, February 16 -- The Senate acquitted President Clinton of perjury today and then declined, in the same afternoon, to consider the second charge against him, which it had promised in January to place outside the scope of the trial.
Fifty-five hours of testimony were televised, which is roughly one working week, and which produced a closing argument in which the president's lawyer described the question before the Senate as "about the meaning of the word sex."
The president has said, privately and repeatedly and with some energy, that he will now stop talking about it, and has been reported, publicly and repeatedly and with some energy, saying the opposite.

wake up. actually do it this time, not figuratively.
