Ten Bombs On Four Trains In Madrid, And A Government That Blames Somebody ElseMARCH 11, 2004 · 16:39
Three trains derailed within an hour across four stations in Madrid on the morning of March 11th, killing 191 people, almost all of them commuters. Within three days the government had attributed the attack to an organisation involved in the invasion of Iraq, and had withdrawn the troops that had been scheduled to leave.

MADRID, March 11 -- Four commuter trains were bombed within an hour of each other this morning in Madrid, killing at least 191 people, and almost all of the dead were on their way to work.
The government has blamed an organisation responsible for bombings in Iraq and has suspended a plan to withdraw remaining troops from that country. The organisation has denied responsibility, as it has denied responsibility in every previous instance.

i'm from madrid. my sister was on the ato. i am not going to describe what it was like. i want to say one thing: the whole city was told it was our fault within a day. that was the worst part.

it is the third time in twenty years a country has been blamed for an attack by somebody who could not have done it, and every time it worked for about a week.

the international section of this paper has been very careful about that attribution for three days and I would like everyone here to notice that.

three trains. the third one is the one that keeps me up. the first two had already happened when it left. somebody got on it anyway. everybody got on it anyway.
