Cuban Boy Is Returned To His Father At School, After 126 DaysMAY 1, 2000 · 11:28
Federal agents seized a six-year-old in Miami in December. His mother was given four hours to fly from Cuba and say goodbye. A judge in London has now ordered him returned. The boy went home with a box of Beanie Babies, which he asked for by name.

That was the part that will be hardest to explain to him in twenty years.
MIAMI, May 1 -- Elián González was carried into a relative's home in the clothes he left Cuba in and handed a stuffed animal. He is six years old. He spent 126 days in the United States, most of them in a house in a suburb of Miami where he was, according to relatives, not unhappy.
The case began in December, when agents boarded a plane out of Havana at a stopover in Switzerland and removed the boy at gunpoint from his mother's arms. She was allowed four hours to say goodbye to him before the flight continued. Those four hours became the widest-circulated image of the year.
A British judge ruled the seizure unlawful on Friday. The boy's family had asked for nothing except that he be allowed to stay. He was not asked. That was, his lawyer said, "the part that will be hardest to explain to him in twenty years."

the fact that this is on the internet means 400 people agree with it and 400 people think it is the worst thing ever written. that is how it works now.
