WASHINGTON, February 1 -- The National Weather Service has reinstated a meteorologist suspended last month after she said, on live television, that a school shooting in Minnesota had occurred 'in a town that is not in a tornado zone'.
The Service has referred the case to an administrative judge. The union has called the firing 'an abdication of the First Amendment by a federal agency', a phrase which several former agency employees described in interviews as 'exactly the kind of sentence we are paid not to write'.
