BAGHDAD, April 9 -- Coalition forces took control of Baghdad this morning after fighting in the streets overnight. The government has surrendered.
In the early afternoon thousands of people gathered in Firdos Square and pushed a statue of the former president off its plinth with ropes. American television carried the video continuously for six hours.
