Air strikes against Iraqi command, control and communications facilities began at about 9:34pm local time, and were followed within hours by roughly 2,000 further strikes and then by ground forces crossing the border. The address to the nation lasted eleven minutes.

BAGHDAD, March 20 -- American and British forces entered Iraq overnight after a final ultimatum expired at 8:17pm local time, having given the Iraqi government more than 48 hours in which to leave.
Early morning television showed traffic on a bridge into the city and a supermarket that appears to have been open throughout. The government has not been located.
