KABUL, December 7 -- Forces opposed to the government took control of the capital this morning. The government had lost the city on Wednesday and had not attempted to retake it, it said, because it no longer had the fuel.
A convoy of senior government officials left the city on Thursday evening in four cars and was reported to have crossed into Pakistan on Friday. It is not known which of them, if any, remains in the country.
