Suicide Attack On Pakistani Hotel Kills Dozens; Neighbours Blame A CountryMARCH 23, 2001 · 09:38
A bomber detonated himself in a Peshawar hotel used by visiting clerics, killing at least forty people and injuring a hundred. Within days, governments across the region were condemning the attack and each other, and a conference of Islamic states voted to dissociate itself from a war nobody had admitted to starting.

THE HOTEL. IT IS STILL A HOTEL.
PESHAWAR, Pakistan, March 23 -- At least forty people were killed Friday when a man detonated a bomb inside a hotel frequently used by visiting Islamic clerics, in the fifth such attack in the province in six months.
There has been no claim of responsibility. In previous attacks responsibility was denied and implied in roughly equal measure.
A meeting of the Organisation of the Islamic Conference ended Sunday with a resolution condemning the attack and a vote, in a secret ballot, to withdraw the organisation's support for the campaign being conducted in Afghanistan by a neighbouring state.
